INTELLI - Kenya Muhathi AA 7oz
Description
Muhathi Estate is a single-producer farm in Kiambu County, Central Province, dedicated to cultivating high-quality SL-28, SL-34, Batian, and Ruiru coffee varieties. The 8-hectare estate sits at 1,700 meters above sea level, in a region historically known for production of dairy, tea, and exceptional coffee. More recently, however, Kiambu's landscape has been rapidly changing. Due to its proximity to Nairobi, real estate development is ever-encroaching on traditional agricultural lands.
At the Muhathi Estate, every step, from cultivation to processing, happens on the farm. While most Kenyan farmers deliver their cherries to local washing stations — where they are then combined with neighboring crops, losing farm-level traceability — Muhathi's owner, Peris Wambui Karungondo, has invested in processing equipment directly on the farm. This allows for a level of quality control and distinctiveness that lets us experience the true vision behind their farming practices.
Growing coffee in Kenya is no easy feat. Aging trees, pests, and disease pose constant challenges that can limit yields. Despite these obstacles, the dedication and meticulous care at Muhathi result in a coffee that is both vibrant and expressive. We are proud to present this coffee, as it embodies the complexity, resilience, and beauty that define Kenyan coffee.
