Still here. Still us. Just making more room for you.

Hi friends,

As we head into our second decade on Broad Ave, we’ve been reflecting on who we are, what we love most, and how this space continues to serve the community that’s supported us from day one.

Over the years, one thing has become clear: City & State has grown into a coffee shop and gathering place first, with retail playing a meaningful but secondary role. Our coffee program, our baristas, and the daily rhythm of people meeting, working, and connecting here have shaped the heart of this space.

And so, in early 2026, City & State will begin a thoughtful evolution.

We’ll be shifting away from a full retail experience and moving toward a more focused coffee and community space, paired with a smaller curated wall of goods from the makers you’ve loved over the years.

What does this mean?

  • Our holiday retail experience this December will remain as you know it
  • Starting after the holidays, we’ll gradually sell through most retail items
  • As the retail footprint shrinks, we’ll create more seating and gathering space
  • A small curated retail wall will stay, featuring our favorite makers and essentials
  • The shop will stay open throughout—no closures or major renovations

This change isn’t about stepping back. It’s about doubling down on what City & State does best and creating even more room for people to connect, meet, and make this corner of Broad Ave part of their daily ritual.

We’ll also be launching a new City & State loyalty program early next year—our way of saying thank you and strengthening the community that has supported us for over 10 years.

We’re deeply grateful for every cappuccino, every gift purchased, every conversation, and every moment you’ve shared with us. This evolution is simply the next step in ensuring City & State continues to grow with Memphis.

If you have questions, please reach out anytime—we’re always here to talk.

Thank you for being part of this place. Here’s to the next chapter.
